Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, 54, took to Instagram in honour of Garden Day UK where the presenter took the opportunity to mark the occasion in a new photo. It comes as the ITV broadcaster’s husband Derek Draper, 53, recently returned home after suffering from Covid-19.

The former lobbyist remained in hospital for a year after battling the virus and he now requires around-the-clock care after returning to the family home.

Kate took to the picture-sharing site and explained their garden has been a refuge for her during the difficult moments but she added that sadly Derek still isn’t strong enough to go outdoors yet.

The GMB host admitted she couldn’t wait for her other half to join her when he gains his strength back.

In view of her one million followers, Kate shared a photo of herself beaming for the camera as she sported a flower crown.

She began: “Happy @gardendayuk! My garden is definitely my happy place & even though it’s not big or fancy I love being out there even if the weather isn’t perfect, because just being outside listening to the rainfall and the wind blow through the leaves is like therapy for me.

“I can’t wait for Derek to get stronger so can get him outside too as know it’ll be good for him.

“Admittedly he may not want to wear a gorgeous blossom crown like me!”

Kate added: “But I am loving it & going to wear it all day to celebrate #gardendayUK.

“I would love to hear how you are celebrating your outside space today & what it means to you generally so do share!”

Celebrity pals and fans alike inundated the comment section, as people offered their well wishes to Derek.

Lorraine Kelly replied: “Gorgeous.”

“Lovely photo Kate. Just nice to be out in the fresh air. I need to do some weeding though but will just ignore that for now,” a fan commented.

A third added: “Hope that Derek is continuing well with his journey back to better health. It must be good for you all not just him having him home. Don’t think I’ve ever been so pleased for someone.”

Garden Day UK is an annual celebration and is all about downing tools and celebrating the fruits of your labour.

People have flocked to social media and shared impressive photos of their back gardens to mark the occasion.

Elsewhere, Kate said in a new interview that her husband Derek will be “traumatised” by his ordeal.

Speaking with Iain Dale on LBC, the radio broadcaster quizzed: “Have you come to terms with the fact that it is inevitable that things cannot go back to how they were even if he recovers, it will not necessarily be the same as it was?”

Kate replied: “It absolutely won’t be the same as it was, I don’t think it will be the same for any of us really, I think we’re all changed by this.

“I think, strangely, we’ve all been through something together in isolation. It is the strangest experience which I think we will look back on in decades to come, people will study in schools and we all wonder how we all live through it.

“Hopefully we’ll get a chance to look back on it and hopefully it will just be history. We won’t have to live a strange new life forever.”
